Amway India has announced to distributors that September 2011 was a record breaking month, with sales exceeding 251 crores (US$50.6 million) in one month for the first time.
The record sales has occurred despite a variety of legal challenges in the country, centered around the Indian states of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. In response to those challenges and to remove the risk of problems in the future, Amway India also announced a number of changes to their business model, beginning November 1. The most significant change is the removal of all registration fees, a change which also occured in the UK following legal challenges to Amway's multi-level business model. Other changes mean that new Amway India IBOs will need to "activate" their account within 90 days to remain registered. An IBOship will be activated through any product purchasing or sponsoring activity.
