The courts judgement in the BERR vs Amway UK case that threatened to close Amway United Kingdom with closure has been handed down, with all three charges brought by BERR dismissed. BERR, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (formerly known as the DTI) had accused Amway of "dream selling" and "inherently objectionable", an "unlawful lottery", and an "unlawful trading scheme".
BERR had accused Amway of "dream selling" and "inherently objectionable", an "unlawful lottery", and an "unlawful trading scheme".
While all three charges were dismissed, Judge Norris did state that if Amway UK had not introduced significant changes to it's business model last year, then he may have found the first charge proven, and accepted BERR's petition to "wind up" (close), Amway UK. In reports in the Grand Rapids Press, Amway spokesman Rob Zeiger said -
"The company takes the action seriously and continues to review business practices around the world to avoid such regulatory threats in the future," Zeiger said today from England.
"We are determined not to leave things in the future to the courts to tell us to change the way we do business. We need to listen better to what the market wants."
The complete judgement is available on Amway Wiki.
