A few days prior to the International Children’s Protection Day, on May 27, Amway Russia and UNICEF held a press-conference,dedicated to the results of their joint programs in 2007 and a new long-term project - "Child’s Smile".

The venue of the press-conference was one of the most popular family cafes in Moscow, where bright colors and funny decorations bring you back to childhood and prove how important it is for a child to feel comfortable and safe. Among the participants of the press-conference there were: Ms. Kemlin Furley, Deputy Representative of UNICEF in the RF; Oleg Gazmanov, popular Russian singer; Oxana Fyodorova, ex-Miss Universe and popular TV anchor; and Maxim Litvin, Head of the External Affairs Department and Irina Platonova, Senior Coordinator of CSR Programs at OOO "Amway". Oxana Fyodorova and Oleg Gazmanov are UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors in the Russian Federation.

At the press-conference Amway Russia handed over to UNICEF a symbolic check for $300 000 - three times larger than last year donation, The money is the 2008 allocation for a new long-term project, "Child’s Smile", which will last for three years (2008 – 2010).

This project is aimed at setting up special Play and Sensory Rooms in medical and social institutions for children in Russian cities. In Play Rooms colorful slides, swings, dry swimming pools and games will enable children to work off  their energy and forget for a time about their illnesses and problems. Sensory Rooms are designed mainly for medical purposes to help specialists establish friendly and trusting relations with children.

"Amway is the largest UNICEF partner both in Russia and in the world. Thanks to the generous donations of the company we can really improve lives of vulnerable children. We thank Amway for partnership and their contribution in Russia", - said Kemlin Furley.

According to Maxim Litvin, Head of the External Affairs Department, the company plans to invest about $1 mlillon during the 3  years of  the project’s implementation. Its financing will come from both the company’s own assets as well as the individual donations of Amway Independent Entrepreneurs and staff , through the Amway "One by One" Campaign for children. In 2008 Amway and UNICEF plan to equip 20 Play and Sensory Rooms in medical and social institutions for children in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Chelyabinsk, Barnaul, Orenburg, Irkutsk and a number of other cities of Russia. During the following two years it is planned to open up another 20 rooms a year.

Oxana Fyodorova, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in the Russian Federation, has been taking part in many UNICEF events for several years. She also actively supports joint Amway – UNICEF projects. "Amway is an example, showing how business can not only make money, but spend it wisely too. It would be great if  in our country, there would be more such socially responsible companies, like Amway", - said Oxana.

Oleg Gazmanov, apart from his own program against drugs, "Don’t Even Try it!", also actively supports UNICEF in Russia. "I like a lot this new project "Child’s Smile". This is an example of real support to vulnerable children, who need our help. Let’s help children together and, maybe then, we will succeed!"
